Principal’s Address

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Easter.

As always I’d like to thank my staff, Board of Management, Parents’ Council, you the parents and of course the boys for your continued support all year.

New School Update

As the planning application process is now in its final stages, we hope to have a verdict on the application from Laois County Council on our return from the Easter holidays.


Offaly Spelling Bee

Well done to Scott Courtney from 6th class who represented the school in the Offaly Spelling Bee Competition. He put in a great performance and was placed in 3rd position.


Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness month. The school will be holding a fundraiser on Thursday, April 6th. All students can wear blue or dress up in blue. We ask students to bring in €1 or a donation of your choice. With the funds raised we are going to buy a camera/video camera for the ARC. Every child that brings in a donation will be entered into the lotto also.


Green Schools

Work is continuing on our 5th Green Flag. After Easter the boys will be working on their projects and growing plants.


Jersey Day

Well done to all the boys that contributed to the Jersey Day Fundraiser. €350 was raised for Portarlington’s First Responders.


Visit the Pony

Some boys from 6th class visited a local Connemara Pony Farm. The boys were allowed to brush the pony and hold his reigns. The pony was called Jessie and she had one foal. A very enjoyable trip!


Nurse Visit

2nd class received a visit from a local nurse from Portlaoise A&E. She spoke to the boys about what her job entails and answered all their medical questions!!



In January, we kicked off the new year with a wide variety of activities for the boys to enjoy. This term we have had some great coaches join us for P.E. with rugby, tae-kwon-do and athletics all on offer. Our after school programme has included basketball, badminton, soccer and hurling!



This week we have 2 teams competing in the FAI schools 5-aside competition. Best of luck to the boys as the set out to retain the county title!



Congratulations to our 3rd/4th class and 5th/6th class teams in the recent All Ireland Sports Hall Athletics Competition in Athlone I.T. Both teams finished in 3rd position.



Our school hurling team are on a winning streak with 3 wins in a row. We are awaiting results after Easter to see how we progress.



Badminton lessons have recommenced this year. They are on every Tuesday in the Community Centre from 3pm – 4pm. Badminton is open to all boys in 4th, 5th & 6th. The cost is €2. We will have our badminton competitions after the Easter holidays



2nd, 3rd and 4th class will commence their swimming lessons on Wednesday, April 26th   and Thursday, April 27th for 6 weeks. The costs of the lessons are €4 per week. Swimming is part of the P.E. curriculum.


Easter Raffle

Tickets are in circulation for our Easter Raffle. The draw will take place on Saturday, April 15th in Supervalu. The prizes are:

1st Hamper sponsored by Supervalu,

2nd €200

3rd €100

& 4 prizes of €50.


Daffodil Day

On Friday, March 24th the school celebrated National Daffodil Day. €500 was raised. Thank you for your support as always.



The lotto is €1 per week to enter. The funds raised go right back to the children, paying for school buses to matches, computer classes, school resources etc. This week we also have an extra prize of a large Easter egg.


Easter Camp

There is an Easter Camp in the school from April 18th -21st.  If you are interested in this fun filled camp registration forms are available in the school office or on the 1st day of camp from 9am. The camp is open to both boys and girls aged between 5 and 12 years.  5-8 year olds 9.30-12.00 and 9-12 year olds 12.30-3.00 The price is €35 with sibling discounts available. Sports, music, Easter art, baking and much more on offer!


Díolachán Cácaí

5th class will be hosting their annual cake sale on Friday, May 5th. A charity is yet to be decided on. Looking forward to the tasty treats!!



The School band performed in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Mountrath & Portarlington this year. Thank you to all the boys and their parents that played on the day. Also thank you to Gerry for his work with the accordion players.


School Library

The main school has set up a school library and the library in our 2nd site is currently under construction! If you have any old books for donation we would greatly appreciate them.


Rainbow Room

We are opening a rainbow sensory room. We are looking for any sensory donations or lamps you may no longer use or need,


First Confession & First Communion

The boys from 2nd class made their First Confession on March 22nd. Work is continuing to prepare the boys for their First Holy Communion on May 27th.



The choir will begin their preparation for the 1st Holy Communion after Easter.



The school are implementing mindful moments using a variety of techniques every day. It’s a wonderful way to chill out and refocus for the afternoon!


School Tours

The teachers are currently organising the school tours for 2017. Details to follow as soon as possible.

School Holidays

The Easter holidays will commence on Friday, April 7th at 12 noon. The school will re-open on Monday, April 24th. The summer holidays will begin on Friday, June 23rd.
